The conference will be held on the beach at Boca Del Rio, San Pedro. Some events may be held in town depending on the number of registrants. Just about anyplace within a couple of miles north or south of San Pedro town will be just fine for accommodations
Due to the grounding of the 737-800 Max planes, flights have been moved around and can be a little more complicated than normal. Don't fret--we have plenty of time for you to buy plane tickets. You will fly into Belize City first, and then from there you can take a hop flight on either Tropic Air, or Maya Island Air to San Pedro. You can also choose to take the Belize Express ferry which is a less expensive route and a nice ride on the Caribbean Sea. Most 3rd party sites like VRBO.com, Booking.com, Hotels.com, etc., all have listings in San Pedro.
You DO NOT need a rental car, nor can you get one. But you may want to rent a golf cart to get back and forth to the meetings as well as exploring the island. Let your hotel know you need a cart and they will most likely have a contact to set you up. Because San Pedro has such high tourism, almost every property you will stay has helpful folks that can assist with all of your questions related to arriving, departing, and items you will need during your stay.
Because phone carriers vary on coverage in Belize, it is wise to download the WhatsApp application on your phone. Wifi is readily available and most of us use WhatsApp for communication. Get used to asking "what's the wifi password?"
There are many company's that offer various fishing, diving, snorkeling, and mainland jungle tours doing cave tubing, mayan ruins, the Belize Zoo, etc. Please take some time to check out TripAdvisor and Google to see what you might want to participate in. We will NOT be doing any excursion bookings for you except for a sunset catamaran tour, but do have some helpful hints if you need them. Just email us with questions.
Pack light. You are coming to the Caribbean. Dress for all events and meetings at the conference are casual, so shorts, shirt, and flip flops are perfect for the weekend. Sunscreen and other items are easily found on the island at countless stores, as are grocery items if you are renting an accommodation that allows cooking. Speaking of groceries--try and buy local items. You will see a stark contrast in price between items that are made in Belize and those that are imported.
The conference will be bi lingual so we will have both English and Spanish speakers, and will put an itinerary up on the website as we get closer to the event date.
KEEP CHECKING THE WEBSITE at meetinginparadise.com for updates. That will be our primary means of letting people know what's happening. With attendees coming from multiple countries speaking multiple languages, it is the most efficient way to make sure everyone has the information they need. Feel free to email Nate or Saul as needed and they will usually get back to you within 24 hours.
No pets in the conference area
No smoking, vaping, or E-Cigs in the conference area
Please respect our island by picking up after yourself, our reef by being mindful of reef friendly sun products, and our people by saying hello and thank you for hosting us.
